Further information The monastery of Hagios Nikolaos Kavassila, close to present-day Gastouni, is dedicated to Nikolaos Kavassilas (+1471) the eminent late Byzantine theologian and saint of the Hesychastic movement. The village of Kavassila close to which the monastery is located was founded very likely in last decades of the 15th c. It fell to the Venetians like the rest of the Peloponnese in the beginning of the 13th c.
