Project Palaikastro Excavation 1902-1906
Scope and Content Part of a group of images from the British School at Athens excavations at Palaikastro, Crete in the 1902-1905. This image shows only a female figurine, but its duplicate BSA SPHS 01/0012.A21.2 shows both a male and female figurine. The original description in the SPHS negative register reads: "Petsofa terra cottas: original drawings. (BSA. IX.pl.8.9)".
Notes The find of the object dates to 1903 when Petsofa was excavated and a colour drawing appears in the publication for that season. However, the A series of negatives were created for colour slides produced from a colour drawings, and date from 1913. However, the extant negatives marked in the A series are black and white. Since this image appeared in the 1913 slide catalogue, it most likely dates to 1913. Marked as A 21a; A21b shows this figure alongside a male figure. The drawing was done by R.M. Dawkins (drawn from examples in the Candia Museum). Listed as a Colour Slide in the SPHS negative register (A series), but the negative is black and white.
