| Scope and Content | Part of a collection of images from the village of Sille in Konya [Konia] in 1909 when Dawkins was investigating Greek dialects. The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Silleh: street view". |
| Notes | Dawkins mentions p. 109 of 'Modern Greek in Asia Minor' Journal of Hellenic Studies 30 (1910) that, in addition to his Cappadocian travels (for research Greek dialects published in Modern Greek in Asia Minor, 1916), he spent time in 1909 at the village of Silli in Konia investigating dialects in this area. Written on the border is "No. 40". Note that the reference Rev. Arch. ix. p. 23, fig. 18 (mentioned in the 1913 slide catalogue) refers to the article: Bell, Gertrude Lowthian, 1907. 'Notes on a Journey through Cilicia and Lycaonia' Revue Archéologique, 9: 18-30. Figure 18 on p. 23 shows the church of Saint Michael at Silleh, from the N.W. and is not the same as this image. |
