| Scope and Content | Part of a group of images from explorations and excavations on the island of Melos conducted by the British School at Athens from 1896 to 1899. The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Melos: view of regio III from N. (a) from well E., (b) from W., (c) from S., (d) excav. int. of regio I". Four negatives were assigned the same SPHS negative number, but all the views are different. Recorded in the SPHS register as 4078 (d). |
| Notes | Date based on the excavation in this region of Phylakopi. "Regio" propbably stands for region. The three regions of the site are described in Smith, C. 1896/1897. "Excavations in Melos, 1897" BSA 3: 16. Region I refers to the area cleared in 1896 and corresponds to squares A 5 to C 5 along the outer wall. |
