Scope and Content Part of a group of images from explorations and excavations on the island of Melos conducted by the British School at Athens from 1896 to 1899. The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Phylakopi pottery: imitation Mykenaean style (Phylakopi pl. 25, 4)".
Notes The dates are based on the excavation seasons at Phylakopi, although it must date prior to 1904 when it appears in the slide catalogue. Also see BSA SPHS 01/2742.7025 for this pots plus two others (BSA SPHS 01/1952.5055). The Phylakopi plate shows the jug with a spout. Pottery sequences were not established at the time of the Phylakopi excavations and 'Mycenaean' was applied to both Cretan Minoan and Mainland Helladic pottery.
