Scope and Content The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Mr. Atchley's numbering: without number. Addenda. Sarcophagus in rock S of entrance to Peiraeus". The entry has been struck out in the SPHS register, presumably deaccessioned.
Notes Part of a group of over 1,000 photographs donated by Mr. Shirley C. Atchley in 1921 (JHS 1922).Therefore, if the specific date is not listed in the register, the images cannot have been produced later than 1921. The sarcophagus is a reference to the supposed tomb of Themistocles; found on the promontory of the peninsula of Piraeus (ancient Acte) facing the sea.
