Scope and Content The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Thebes: with the cave of the Dragon".
Notes Probably a commercial image from the English Photographic Company. See related record BSA SPHS 01/4363.8982 for comparison; SPHS 8982 is horizontally flipped with the cave in the lower centre right. The description matches one in the inventory of sites represented in the image collection printed in the 1902 Journal of Hellenic Society (p.. lxviii), indicating that it was slightly larger than a full plate negative, but does not indicate a slide was made. The slide was most likely created later (prior to 1909 when it first appeared in a published slide catalogue). The inventory, without catalogue numbers, was most likely created when the collection was reorganised, switching from alphanumeric catalogue numbers to sequential numbers.
