About the John Pendlebury Family Papers
The John Pendlebury Family Papers cover the period from 1913 to 1964 and document the life of archaeologist and WWII hero John Devitt Stringfellow Pendlebury, his wife Hilda and their family.

Sent to Norman and Hilda [Pendlebury] from Cousin Sallie (on 14 Aug 1965), with a note on the reverse. Stuck onto a cardboard backing, the photograph has some scratches on it.
The Devitt family were Lilian Pendlebury’s extended family. The portrait photograph was taken by Speaight Limited, New Bond Street, London.
Both are wearing hats and coats. Grace is sitting on a stool holding a model ship, and John is standing up with an arm stretched out.
