Telling her he had [moved up a division] in French, that his uniform had arrived but was dirty from the last man who had it, that Mrs Comber [his childhood nanny] had sent him a “Torta”, and that Hutchinson’s [magazine] had arrived and was good. John also asks for Lilian to bring stamps when she visits, and says that he can’t go to lunch (on the following Friday). |
