Dates 1920 – c.1936
Scope and Content The correspondence covers the years 1920 – c.1936 and comprises correspondence sent by Winifred to Lamb to her parents whilst in Greece and Turkey. These concern her archaeological work, her life during this period, the BSA and significant events during her time in Greece. The correspondence includes her work in Thermi, Sparta, Corinth, Mycenae and Kusura. They also mention her colleagues and friends including Mr and Mrs Heurtley, Alan Wace, Miss Willis, Mr Clark, Lilian Chandler, Bernard and Dorothy Ashmole, Mary Herford (later known as Braunholtz) (later known as Braunholtz) and Stanley Casson.
Notes These letters are typed copies of the handwritten originals, which remain in the custody of the Lamb family. When the letters were donated to the BSA they were not in their current order. They have been reordered to recreate their original order, probably by the archivist M. Cognell, when they were accessioned. When accessioned the correspondence were also individually labelled with the accession numbers WL/1 – 50.
