| Scope and Content | View of the doorjamb with the relief cross and the bull. This is a Hellenic Society photograph. It is numbered (H.S. 3130) at the back. Further annotation in pencil survives. |
| Further information | A circular structure in front of the Ephesus city Odeum bearing the carved skull of a bull on the doorjamb has been identified as the ‘grave of Hagios Loukas’- the bull, the third of the symbols mentioned by Ezekiel, is used in Byzantine art as a symbolic representation of the saint. The structure was, very likely, an ancient temple which was later used as a chapel/church. |
