Scope and Content The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Athens: Propylaea and cave from the N.".
Notes Earliest date based on the demolition of the Bastion of Odysseus (which is absent in this photograph) and certainly no later than 1897 as it appears in the first SPHS catalogue of the image collection in JHS for 1897, possibly identified as catalogue number Ab19. Note the mention of Miss Jane Harrison's negatives added to the collection in the 1899, p. xxxv in 'Proceedings of the Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies. Session 1898-99' The Journal of Hellenic Studies, Vol. 19 (1899), pp. xxxiii-xliv. Hand-written annotation in photograph: "Eng. Photo Co. Athens 68". The image is a commercial one from the English Photographic Company, but donated to the SPHS by Miss Harrison.
