Scope and Content The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Athens: Tower of Winds".
Notes Latest date based on the mention of Miss Jane Harrison's negatives added to the collection in the 1899 volume of the Journal of Hellenic Studies (p. xxxv in 'Proceedings of the Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies. Session 1898-99' The Journal of Hellenic Studies, Vol. 19 (1899), pp. xxxiii-xliv). Printed below the print is "Temple d' Eole" on photograph. Below the print is the cropped partial caption: "... Athens. There were sundials outside and a water [clock] supplied from the [...] aqueduct along which the water was raised is visible behind it to the left. The [...] the East Wind [shaking] flowers & fruit out of his cloak (2) centre Kaekias the N.E. [...] Borea the N. Wind an old man [...] cloak. The tower is mentioned by [...] as exiting & must have been built in the 1st cent. B.C. The North East [...] is visible above to the left. Possibly from a commercial set.
