Containing an account of a trip to Italy with postcards and photographs [Apr-May 1923]; postcards and reproduction photographs of Cambridge (United Kingdom), Melrose Abbey (Edinburgh), Whitby, Athens and Venice; photographs of Greece (Athens, Nemea, Crete, Attica, Olympia); photographs of John and Hilda Pendlebury’s wedding; postcards and photographs of Egypt; and postcards of Rhodes.
Hilda [White] was travelling with others including Miss Heywood, Miss Weavers, Miss Reynolds and Mr Waters. She stayed in Paris (on the way), Torino, Rome, Naples and Florence, and visited other places in Italy. The handwritten account is accompanied by postcards and some photographs.
Hilda describes this as a villa that once belonged to [Wilhelm II of Germany] which had been presented to [Gabriele] D’Annunzio by the Italian nation.

John and Hilda Pendlebury joined the cruise (which was hosted by Mrs Emmett, wife of the American Naval attaché at Hague) at the invitation of Charles and Isabel Seltman. The manuscript includes descriptions of Keos [Kéa], Tenos [Tínos], Mykonos [Míkonos], Delos [Dhílos], Samos [Sámos], Chios, Mitylene [Lésvos], Paros [Páros] and Melos [Mílos].

The notes have been made from various books and articles and are about Syros, Paros [Páros], Phylakopi (on Mílos), Thera and Knossos.
Also includes copied out hymns and carols. Notes about the Cyclades mainly relate to figurines and pottery.
Contains notes by John Pendlebury about: places including archaeological sites in Crete and objects found there; detailed travel itineraries for April 1934 and photographs taken. With a sketch plan of a small site. Also contains notes by Hilda Pendlebury taken from ‘Bronze‐ zeitliche u. früheisenzeitliche Chronologie’ by Nils Åberg (1930). Some pages have been cut-out.
Only the first few pages have been used, the rest are blank.
The notes starts around half-way through the notebook, the first half is blank. Some pages have been ripped out.
