Further information | The Monastery of Hosiou Gregoriou, originally a monk in the Sinai, was said to have been founded by Saint Gregory ca. 1345, The monastery was restored by Rumanian princes at various times, the latest in the latter half of the 18th century after a devastating fire. According to Hasluck when he visited in 1911, the buildings of the monastery fall into two periods - immediate post-18th century fire, and then the later 19th century. Hasluck, F.W. 1924.
