Scope and Content | An image from a group of images taken by F.W. Hasluck when investigated the 'Latin Monuments' on the island of Chios from 1907 to 1909. Original description in the SPHS register reads: "Chios: inscribed stone with coat of arms from S. Claira". |
Notes | Dates are based on Hasluck's investigations of the island of Chios (BSA 16:137). However, the catalogue number appears in the JHS 1904 catalogue (p. ciii) and the JHS 1913 catalogue (p. 47) as "Syracuse, last camp of the Athenians and mouth of the harbour". It appears correctly in the JHS 1919 accessions to the lantern slide catalogue. It is possible that the negative existed in the collection prior to 1919, but had only been duplicated as a slide at this time and the number reused. Most of the other images of Chios Genoese monuments are catalogued later in the negative register. |
