Condition Black paint across the top of the image to mask the sky, beginning to flake off in places.

Scope and Content The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Athens: Acropolis walls with old columns".
Notes Latest date based on the mention of Miss Jane Harrison's negatives added to the collection in the 1899 volume of the Journal of Hellenic Studies (p. xxxv in 'Proceedings of the Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies. Session 1898-99' The Journal of Hellenic Studies, Vol. 19 (1899), pp. xxxiii-xliv). Handwriten caption below the print: "Drums of tufa columns from the fragments of the old temple between the Parthenon & Erechtheum built into the walls of the Acropolis when it was fortified after the Persian Wars between B.C. 479-470".
