Project Hogarth Travels 1891-1904
Scope and Content Part of a group of images from the 1894 travels of Hogarth, Yorke and others up the Euphrates as described in Hogarth's 1896 book, A Wandering Scholar in the Levant. The original description in the SPHS catalogue reads: "Asia Minor: later monuments. Roman bridge near Kiakhta".
Notes Date attributed to the year in which Hogarth, Yorke and others to explore the Euphrates - see A Wandering Scholar in the Levant 1896 and York in 1896 Geographical Journal 8(5): 453-472. SPHS Register lists both Hogarth and Munro as donors, although it is clear from the description in Hogarth's book that Munro did not accompany Hogarth on this trip up the Euphrates in 1894. The image was used for the 1936 Exhibition of Minoan Civilization and the first 50 years work of the BSA at Burlington House in London. This image appears in SPHS Slide Set by D.G. Hogarth (ca. 1923) Alexander the Great, slide number 30.
