Scope and Content | Part of a collection of images from Dawkins' travel to Pontus to investigate dialects in 1914. The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Monastery of S George Peristerreona, near Trebizond". |
Notes | Date based on Dawkins' travel to the Pontus to investigate Greek dialects. His investigations were never completed due to the outbreak of WWI - see Mackridge BSA 85 (1990) p. 206. Also see B. Olsen (pp. 105-120) in Shankland, D. Archaeology, Anthropology and Heritage in the Balkans and Anatolia. 2004, Istanbul: Isis Press. This image was used for a panel in the exhibition at Brulington House, London, in 1936 to celebrate the first 50 years of the BSA. This image appears in SPHS Slide Set B.I. and I.A.
