| Further information | Xeropotamou Monastery is situated on high ground above the stream from which it takes its name. The monastery has an early foundation, but it is obscured because many documents supporting a very early date were forged in the 18th century during a period of revival of the monasteries. It is, however, connected to the legend of the raids of Michael Palaeologus in the 11th century. When Hasluck visited the monastery in 1911, he observed relatively modern buildings, dating to the rebuilding in the 18th and 19th centuries. Hasluck, F.W. 1924.
