Phylakopi Melos Island |

The British School at Athens |
Project | Phylakopi Excavation 1911 |
Scope and Content | Part of a group of images from the continuation of excavations in 1910-1911 at Phylakopi on the island of Melos previously conducted by the British School at Athens from 1896-1899. The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Phylakopi Pottery: 163 LMII vase BSA xvii pl. XI". |
Notes | The mainland pottery sequences were not established at the time of Phylakopi Excavations. 'M' could stand for Mycenaean and be applied to both Cretan Minoan and Mainland Helladic pottery. Since the half plate negative size (number 2) is pencilled into the SPHS register, this may be a replacement copy negative for an earlier one of full plate size like the majority of negatives in this group. |
