Scope and Content | Part of the collection of images, 1906-1910, of the British School at Athens excavations at Sparta, Laconia. The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Sparta: Hellenistic tombs. B.S.A. 1907, showing vases and bones". |
Notes | The number 169 is written on the border of the negative, then struck off. Date is based on BSA Corporate Records - Excavation Reports for Sparta 1906, 1924-27, 1950, 1954 - Sparta Negatives for 1906 (1-18; 199-207) Negatives for 1907 (101-198). Caption in the Excavation Reoports reads: "Hellenistic Tombs. Same tomb [as BSA SPHS 01/2666.6949] with vases and bones in situ". The published image in the BSA report on the 1907 season only shows the bottom half of the image with contents of the tomb; the man's leg has been brushed out of the image. The person in the image may be Guy Dickins who excavated the Hellenistic burials with Wace. |
