Scope and Content | Part of a series of images from the island of Thasos by John ff. Baker-Penoyre during his visit in 1907 to map areas of archaeological interest, particularly the site of Limena, and to conduct investigations of ancient architecture. The original description of the image in the SPHS register reads: "Thasos: Στο Λουτρό. Greek & Byzantine café at". |
Notes | Dates to the survey of Thasos by Baker-Penoyre in 1907. It is unclear what the original caption meant by cafe; perhaps it may have been an abbreviation for capital. Baker-Penoyre's publication clearly states that is is a Doric capital from the "classical age of Kinara" which he found on the beach "lying on a pile of other fragments that had been heaped together to make a rude-cliff-wall for a field of Indian corn." |
