Further information | The foundations of the Philotheou Monastery are ascribed to various dates ranging from thje 9th to the 19th century. According to Hasluck when he visited in 1911, this was one of the poorer monasteries with the majority of the buildings modern. Although, the katholikon (which preserves an older style) dates to the 18th century. The re-building in the 19th century is attributed to a devastating fire of 1871. Hasluck, F.W. 1924.
