Scope and Content | The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Tiryns: Gallery leading down to well in North wall". |
Notes | Published in the first SPHS catalogue of the image collection in JHS for 1897, identified as catalogue number Dc24. Date of the image, therefore, must date prior to 1897. Leaf was also known to be in the Peloponnese in 1891 and may have taken a photograph of the nearby Tomb of Clytemnestra at Mycenae (BSA SPHS 01/0368.1680) in 1891. It is listed twice in the 1904 JHS catalogue, first correctly as Tiryns and the second time as "Mycenae, gallery leading down to well in N. wall.". This incorrectly appears a second time in the 1904 catalogue (JHS 1904, c) under Topography, Architecture and Excavations. Peloponnesus, Views and Sites as "Mycenae, gallery leading down to well in N. wall", possibly confused with SPHS 1683. |
