Notes | A commercial image from the English Photographic Company. Unknown date, but based on numerous images from the English Photographic Company donated via Shirley Atchley catalogued from SPHS 3401 to 3407; 3421 to 3439 appearing in the 1897 slide catalogue in the Journal of Hellenic Studies, it probably dates no later than 1897. Certainly no later than 1904. On the negative, the cropped caption reads: "[Fro]m the Hill of Philopappus just outside Athens. The bay of Phalerum is well shown with the site of old Phalerum on the [...] [Mun]ychia the citadel of Piraeus at the west end. The very dim mountains in the distance are in Argolis. The [...]" and notes marking locations of Aegina, Old Phalerum, ancient Cape Kolias, Munychia and New Phalerum. |
