Scope and Content | The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Mycenae: lion gate before excavation". |
Notes | P. Sebah is Pascal Sébah (1823–1886), a commercial photographer who was based in Istanbul. Date is based on time when it is speculated P. Sebah was photographing in Greece (P. Carabott, Y. Hamilakis, E. Papargyriou, 2015. Camera Graeca: Photographs, Narratives, Materialities p. 115). A label with P. Sebah is on the image with caption, partly covered by making. If this date is correct, it would be prior to excavations by Schliemann in 1874. |
