Notes | Date is based on the fact that the negative was created for the 1936 Exhibition of Minoan Civilization and the first 50 years work of the BSA at Burlington House in London. Printed on the negative: "367. Cast of a horseman from the Acropolis. The head- well known from its discoverer as the 'Rampin head', is in the Louvre, the horse and body of the rider in the Acropolis museum. Payne recognised the head as Attic, and found that a cast from it fitted a cast of the neck of the rider on the Acropolis. He also identified for the first time fragments of the neck of the horse. The statue is of a winner in a horse race. He wears an oak wreath, such as was given to victors at Delphi". |
