Scope and Content Portrait of the head and shoulders of a young man with glasses and a mustache in a suit. Caption in thick black pen, on a separate piece of paper that has been pasted in, reads "John. L. My-": the end has been torn out. This is likely Myres' signature. Underneath in black pencil in a different hand is written "1892-95".
Notes Sir John Linton Myres (1869 – 1954) was born in Preston and educated at New College, Oxford. He joined the BSA for three years (1892-95) as Craven University Fellow and excavated on Cyprus before assisting Sir Arthur Evans on Crete. His work on Cyprus would span several decades. Outside of excavations, Myres was a respected professor at the Universities of Liverpool and Oxford and made several important contributions to anthropology as a whole, including founding the Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute.
