| Notes | Robert Carr Bosanquet (1871 – 1935) was born in London and educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. Bosanquet had a long relationship with the BSA, first attending as a student in 1892, readmitted three other times, and becoming Assistant Director in 1899. Bosanuqet became Director the following year and oversaw a period of intense research, including excavatons at Praisos and Sparta. He later taught as professor at University of Liverpool. Alan John Bayard Wace (1879 – 1957) was born in Cambridge and educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge. In 1902, Wace arrived at the BSA as a student before assuming the position of Director in 1914. With the outbreak of World War I, most activities at the BSA had to pause. During this period, Wace held a position with the British legation at Athens and excavated in Corinth. Wace left the directorship in 1923, taking a position at the Victoria and Albert Museum. During the second world war, he again joined the British legation. Richard MacGillivray Dawkins (1871 – 1955) was born in Surbiton and educated at Emmanual College, Cambridge. He joined the BSA as a student in 1902 and was readmitted as a Craven Student the next year, returning once again in 1904. In 1906, Dawkins was appointed Director of the BSA. He was involved in multiple digs, including Filakopi, Palekastro, and sites in Laconia. In World War I, he served as an intelligence officer and later taught at Oxford. In his later years, Dawkins published three folklore collections. |
