Notes Carl Axel Boethius (1889 – 1969) was born in Arvika and educated at the University of Upsala. As Foreign Student, he came to the BSA in 1920 for two years. During this time, Boethius was involved with the Mycenae excavations. Shortly afterwards, he became the first Director of the Swedish Archaeological Institute in Rome. Boethius was also a professor at the University of Gothenburg; as a scholar, his primary interests were in studying Etruscan culture.
