It is initialed in pencil in the upper left corner (RWS?). Further annotation in pencil survives. The drawing, according to A.C. Headlam, were made by R.W. Schultz and S.H. Barnsley from photograpH.S. and plans he provided to them.

Part of a group of images from the 1891 travels of Hogarth and Munro in Anatolia as described in Hogarth's 1896 book, A Wandering Scholar in the Levant. The original description in the SPHS catalogue reads: "Asia Minor: later monuments: early monastery at Koja Kalessi, Calycadnus Valley. (J.H.S. Supp. II fig. 1)".
