The John Pendlebury Family Papers cover the period from 1913 to 1964 and document the life of archaeologist and WWII hero John Devitt Stringfellow Pendlebury, his wife Hilda and their family.
Written in a mixture of English and Greek. Sent to Herbert Pendlebury by John Pendlebury whilst he was at Winchester College.
Written in mock Old English, with the printed signatures of Jehan Pendleberie [John Pendlebury] and others.

Commander Pool was the post-war British Consul in Khaniá, Crete, and died in Athens in 1946. John and Hilda Pendlebury had met him in Crete in 1933, and after John’s death he tried to help Hilda find out what had happened to John.
Exact relationship to John Pendlebury is not known.
