By 1895 what was left from the Byzantine church at the northeast corner of the present Kopça and Alti Pağa Sok had already been replaced by a tekke and, later, by modern buildings. The monument must have been of cross-domed plan with narthex. Recessed brick masonry -alternate brick and stone courses- was used on the exterior walls. Samples of the building’s sculpture survived the 1917 fire. Recent evidence suggests that this was a Komnenian building which underwent extensive restoration during the Palaiologan period. |
