Scope and Content | Part of a series of images from the island of Thasos by John ff. Baker-Penoyre during his visit in 1907 to map areas of archaeological interest, particularly the site of Limena, and to conduct investigations of ancient architecture. The original description of the image in the SPHS register reads: "Thasos: Limenas, 5th century relief an attendant reclining figure pouring libation". |
Notes | Dates to the survey of Thasos by Baker-Penoyre in 1907. It is now in the Istanbul Archaeological Museum, Inv. No. 1947 (Cat. Mendel 578). The images in the citation mentioned in the 1913 slide catalogue (Mendel, Gustave 1910. 'La Stèle Funèraire de Thasos au Musée Impérial Ottoman', Révue de l'art ancien et moderne, 27: 401-410) do not show the same photograph, but contain close-ups and a discussion. |
