Scope and Content | The original description in the SPHS register reads: "Constantinople: land walls, tower and Top-Kapi". |
Notes | Possible date based on a group of images from this "batch" (2901-3000; vol. 1, page 156 -160) donated by Hasluck; some from this collection of Constantinople are listed in the 1910 lantern slide accession list. Also BSA Annual Report for 1909/1910 indicates that Hasluck visited Constantinople to photographing Byzantine monuments. Probably shows the 'Arch of Urbicius', located near the Milion (the Byzantine 0 mile marker), which was a surviving gate and part of the wall of the early Roman and Byzantine walls of the city which originally had 27 towers. |
