Late Roman and Byzantine use of the Theatre Space Project study season 2008
Assessment and Analysis: Study season
Ms C. Pickersgill and Dr P. Roberts have completed their study of the Roman pottery dating from the first century BC to the sixth century AD. D. Hopkins produced drawings of the entire form series produced over seven field seasons and consisting of approximately 1,400 type fossils. Each pottery sherd was recorded and checked; photographic record of the assemblage was taken; a study of the entire fabric series by eye was made; and packing and storage undertaken to allow easy future access. Kind permission to study the pottery was given by Professors Waywell and Wilkes for the material excavated from the Roman theatre and stoa and by S. Raftopoulou, A. Themos and E. Zavvou (5th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities) for pottery from six properties within Sparta.
