Rhitsona Excavation 1907-1909
Fieldwork:
After identifying the site as ancient Mycalessos, R.M. Burrows and P.N. Ure began excavating the necropolis. During the three seasons of excavation numerous 6th century Archaic period graves were excavated. Later Greek and Roman were also discovered. The grave goods consisted of a large number of pots, figurines, bronzes and other objects, providing a rich dataset in understanding burial practices. Most graves tended to be single interments and the human bones were examined.
Active from 1907 to 1909.
