Isthmia Excavation 1932-1933
The excavations at Isthmia were undertaken to determine whether Fimmen's suggestions about the site were true. Some of Fimmen's views, including the suggestion that the foundations of the Temenos wall were of purely Byzantine origin, were confirmed to be correct after an investigation of the a section of the wall. On the other hand, many of Fimmen's suggestions, such as the proposal that a specific area at Isthmia was the site of the classical temenos, were incorrect and only Roman walls were found and not one classical sherd was found here. The site's chronology ranges from the Geometric to Byzantine periods.
Active from 1932 to 1933.
