Prehistoric Thessaly & the Spercheios Valley 1908-1910
Research programme:
The year after the excavations at Theotokou, Alan Wace and Percivil Droop were joined by Maurice Thompson in the search for Prehistoric Thessaly didn't begin until 1908 when Wace and Droop travelled to Thessaly and the Spercheus Valley (between Lamia and Liandokladi) to note prehistoric sites. Wace and M.S. Thompson proceeded to excavate mounds/magoula, those of Zerelia (1908), Lianokladi (1909), Tsani Magoula (1909), Tsangli (1910), and Rakhmani (1910). The driving force of this project was to understand the chronological sequences of prehistoric settlements in this area, primarily driven by the characterisation of the pottery. In 1912, Wace and Thompson published their book, Prehistoric Thessaly: being some account of recent excavations and explorations in North-eastern Greece from Lake Kopias to the borders of Macedonia.
Active from 1908 to 1910.
