Siphnos Excavation 1935-1938
The main goal of this excavation was to clear the site of the Medieval buildings and then to see what was beneath. In the first year of excavations Geometric and Hellenistic houses were excavated and Cycladic sherds were found. In May and June of 1938 there was a final excavation at Siphnos. The remainder of a seventh century deposit was cleared from the Acropolis and a Geometric house was found beneath it. Further sections of the marble Acropolis wall were cleared and its whole course traced.
Active from May 1935 to Jun 1938.
