Kythera Palaiochori Survey 1986-1990

In this new session the further recording of the domestic buildings and some of the many churches on the site of the Byzantine city. The plan of the Byzantine city was completed in 1987 and a detailed survey of the reklevant Venetian documents was undertaken. Many churches were reconstructed. The urban growth of the areas was able to be recorded, including the access-ways and the alley-ways. The Kastro wall was re-examined and the architect sketched reconstructions of various phases of the building. The houses at the NW and SE of the site were closely looked at and builders were consulted about traditional roofs, The Post-Medieaval houses in the villages of Kastrisiarika and Katsouliarika were excavated. The resistivity survey and pottery collection were completed and the pottery was studied and the architectural drwaings checked in the summer. With the use of ropes the precipitous walls on the NW section were examined to record existing walls.
