Lefkandi-Toumba cemetery study season 2006
Assessment and Analysis: Study season
A systematic restoration of the bronze and iron objects from the Toumba cemetery took place in March and April 2006 in the Museum of Eretna. Kathy Hall (INSTAP-EC) started the conservation of bronze Near Eastern vessels and other metal finds after a generous grant awarded by the Institute for Aegean Prehistory. The conservation will continue in 2007. A very successful workshop for the preparation of the publication of the Toumba cemetery took place at Merton College, Oxford in September 2006. In attendance were Dr I. S. Lemos, Mrs H. Brock, Professor J. N. Coldstream, Mrs S. Crowther, Dr I. Kilian, Professor J. Kroll, Dr J. Musgrave, Dr G. Nightingale, Dr. J Ogden, Professor Th. Rehren, Mr D. Ridgway, and Mrs Y. Spantidaki. They presented papers on their material and discussed problems and specific issues relating to the penod and the importance of the cemetery within the Early Iron Age context. It is expected that final manuscripts will be submitted by Spring/Summer 2007. Thanks go to Oxford University (Merton College; Faculty of Classics; Craven Committee; John Fell, OUP Research Grants) for covering the cost of the workshop.
Active from /03/2006 to /04/2006.
