Lefkandi-Toumba cemetery study season 2007
Assessment and Analysis: Study season
A systematic restoration of the bronze and iron objects from the Toumba cemetery took place in March and April m the Museum of Eretria. Ms K. Hall (INSTAP, East Crete) carried out the conservation of bronze Near Eastern vessels and other metal finds with a generous grant from the Institute for Aegean Prehistory. Conservation will continue in 2008. Under the direction of Dr I. S Lemos further study was undertaken in Eretria. Dr and Mrs J. Musgrave studied the skeletal remains at the Museum of Eretria (supported by a grant from the British Academy). In particular, they re-examined the skeletal remains of the female burial in the Toumba building. Mrs Y. Spantidaki (Hellenic Centre for Research and Conservation of Archaeological Textiles) and C. Moulherat (Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musees de France) examined traces of textiles on iron and bronze objects from the Toumba cemetery. Dr A. Babbi studied for publication the figurine from tomb 39. Dr A.-M. D'Onofrio studied the finds (tokens and stone balls) from tombs 46, 62, and 74. Final manuscripts and/or drafts have been received by a number of participants in preparation for publication of the cemetery.
