Assessment and Analysis: Thematic survey
Early in 1888, Robert Weir Schultz and Sidney H. Barnsley, two young students of the Royal Academy of Arts visited Greece for the first time with the purpose of engaging in the study of Byzantine Architecture. Two years and three trips later, they had produced hundreds of documents recording, in detail, Byzantine monuments in the Mediterranean. Their drawing, photographs and personal papers provided the Byzantine Research Fund archive with its initial documents.
