Markiani Amorgos Survey 1985-1987: Season 1987
Survey: Systematic fieldwalking survey
Systematic surface collections were made during two weeks in 1987, across the entire area covered by archaeological materials. Collection stopped when the density of surface material dropped to the level of the background scatter of artefacts in adjacent areas. To the east and west, the collection area was further defined by the direction of the slope; all of the area where material could have washed down from the concentration on the Markiani hilltop was investigated. To the south, collection stopped at a series of broad, relatively flat terraces halfway to the sea, acting as a sediment trap for the material washing from above; very few sherds were identified on the slopes below.
Active in 1987.
