Tramythia Excavation 1896
One of the first sites investigated during the British School at Athens Melos Campaign (1896-1899) was Greek and Roman town of Tramythia. The site is located in an area between the villages of Klima, Trypete and Plaka. In 1896, various areas were opened and revealed town walls, gate, stadium, theatre, an elaborate mosaic floor in a cult building as well as later Byzantine churches. A small trial trench was opened in the Demark's field in 1897 to determine the connection between the town gate and the public buildings. Results were published in various articles in the Annual of the British School at Athens.
